Reader’s Question:

I am getting a van insurance and I’d like to know if there is any difference between it and a car vehicle insurance. What are the things I should know about van insurance?

Shawn

Miami, FL

There is not much difference between car and van insurance. Most vehicle insurance companies employ the same requirements and criteria in determining van insurance rates.

Van insurance is essential if you own a van, especially since you can never tell when an accident or natural calamity strikes and damages your van. A van insurance Florida protects your vehicle from collisions, thefts, and natural calamities such as flood or tornadoes.

Van insurance premium is determined by various factors. For one, you can get cheap van insurance Florida if you have a good driving record with minimal traffic violations. You can also get affordable van insurance Florida if your credit history is commendable.

Like in car insurance, the model and the type of your van is considered in determining the van insurance premiums. Installing safety devices like immobilizers, tracking devices, and security alarms can help you get lower van insurance premiums.

Like in shopping for car insurance, you can get the best van insurance if you conduct a thorough research on van insurance policies and rates.

Jeremy

Heres what you need to do. First you must personally seek advise for the defense of any lawsuits against you. Go get an experienced car accident lawyer. You will have to pay for any court cost and lawyers fee as well even if you are not found guilty or liable for the accident.

If you are found responsible for the accident, especially if the damages and injuries you caused to others are severe, the court will pass a judgment against you for a big sum of money. If however you are unable to make the payment for the said amount of the judgment, the other party will sue to collect from you.

It is really necessary to get car insurance in Miami Florida now if you still dont have it. Protect yourself from unforeseen event like this and make sure you get car insurance as soon as possible.

Reader’s Question:

Renew or not to renew? That is my question. My auto insurance will be lapsing soon. Care to offer any pointers for a humble gent like me in Florida?

Winston

Orlando, FL

Hey there, Winston! The spirit of the USA lives on in consumers who love to be informed like you. For auto insurance renewals, pieces of advice for those who live in California and Illinois would be the same as the advice for someone who lives in Florida. The critical point whenever you think of renewing your auto insurance. What would be your objective? Would you need more coverage? Or would you need to lower your auto insurance costs?

These are just some suggestions from me to help you get along your thoughts of renewing or not. Auto insurance renewal should not be super tricky as one would imagine. But before embarking on the path to renewal, prepare yourself by getting some essential information. As a responsible driver, how many violations did you get last year or this year? If that is a low number or even zero, you can use that to get a discount from your current auto insurance provider. Okay, so we’re going for discounts. Another thing to do to lower your cost is to check your car, there could be some provisions in your existing policy that you no longer need. You can exclude that the next time out. Also if you are already a longtime policy holder of the auto insurance company, you can ask to get something that should reward you for staying with the company (read as: discount). If you also have homeowner’s insurance, maybe you can move your auto insurance policy to the same company that handles your home insurance.

Reader’s Question:

Is there a possibility that I can get a low auto insurance rate these days. I am planning to buy this 1985 red corvette at a car auction. I am not going to drive on it too much, I am just trying to get into the old-school car thingie.

Armando

Miami, FL

Looking for an auto insurance rate that can cost less for your old vehicle or a new one is still possible these days. Why, because somehow, auto insurance rate is still dependent on the drivers driving record, what the vehicle is used for and the number of distance the car will be traveling. Take into consideration these tips when getting your car insured and it will probably save you money.

Driving safely or cautiously can lower your auto insurance rate. You ask why? These means that it is more likely that you’d be able to avoid traffic violations and vehicle accidents. Auto insurance companies hesitate to offer less auto insurance rate to drivers or owners who have accident records regarding the driving of their vehicle. As for finding companies who offer less auto insurance quote, use the internet as your advantage. You can get quotes from different companies and can compare which one offers the cheapest and provides good coverage. Not it will not only save you money, but it will save you precious time. Take also in consideration that there are factors that can affect your auto insurance premiums, factors such as the place where your car is parked overnight, the safety and security features installed in your car, your driving behavior, your gender even your age.

The last tip is optional since it may not be applicable to everyone. If you have more than one vehicle, try acquiring an insurance package for all your vehicles. But check if they are offering multi-vehicle discount before taking these step.

Auto Insurance Requirement Florida FL

Reader’s Question:

I live in Clearwater, FL. Is it required for me to have a driver’s license before I can purchase auto insurance?

Francis

Clearwater, FL

Francis, from the point of view of the law, you don’t have to have a driver’s license to be able to purchase auto insurance coverage. The law does not impose this kind of restriction. Technically, you can purchase auto insurance with or without a driver’s license.

However, the law does want you to have any type of permit to drive a car or a motor vehicle. It doesn’t have to be a driver’s license. It could be a learner’s permit, a foreign license, a temporary license. If it’s anything that will allow you to drive around, then the law allows you to get auto insurance coverage. After all, if you’re going to drive around, you need to be insured for your own protection and the people surrounding you.

Okay. We’re through with that. Here’s the thing: while the law is not that strict when it comes to acquiring auto insurance coverage, most insurance companies do have a different view on this. Their rule would usually ask you to have a valid driver’s license before they can provide auto insurance coverage. Usually, a learner’s permit can allow you to be included in the auto insurance policy of your parents, for example, but you won’t be able to buy your own auto insurance coverage using the learner’s permit. You shouldn’t be driving around Florida without a license or auto insurance.

DUI Auto Insurance Florida FL

Reader’s Question:

It is almost a year since a lost my license because of DUI. MY car is in the garage in my home in Florida during that period. Provided by this case, do I need to get a car insurance?

Arnold

Hollywood, Florida

It is most likely that the state of Florida will require at least the minimum requirement of the state for the the car insurance if the vehicle is still registered during the license suspension.

On the other hand, you can take off the insurance on the vehicle if you plan to turn in the plate and just keep the vehicle in the garage since the car is without a registration. There are states that allow registration suspension because the vehicle is not operable, not within the state because of a military order and other reasons. You can check with Florida DMV if they can allow to suspend your registration until you reinstate your license. Remember that you cannot drive a car without insurance or registration. If you plan to drive your car or allow someone to drive you car, you have to register and insure the car first.

Reader’s Question:

I’m thinking of bargaining with my Dad – I’d pay for the auto liability insurance while he pays for the car. How much will the car insurance cost here in Clearwater, Florida, do you think?

Rachel

Clearwater, Florida

Hi there, Rachel. I assume you’re going to be a first-time car owner and a teenage driver as well? Let me be frank with you, Rachel. In general, statistics dictate that first time car drivers and teenage car drivers are much more likely to file an auto insurance claim than the average American. I suppose this applies to Clearwater, Fl as well. Since you are both, (therefore, clearly a high risk case) insurers in Clearwater, FL are also likely to require higher premiums from you at the beginning. Don’t despair, though. Insurers usually consider giving lower premiums after about 3 years, provided you maintain a good driving record and keep to one insurance company during that time.

In the meantime, here’s what you can do: (a) shop around for cheap rates and discounts from reliable insurers in Clearwater, FL; (b) opt for higher deductibles, although you would want to balance that with how much you can afford to pay for yourself in case something happens before you would need to draw on the auto insurance policy; and (c) select the right car. Yup, your car choice directly affects your insurance premiums! See, even if your dad agrees to buy a Ferrari, can you afford the auto insurance costs?

The best way to find out how much you need to prepare is to request for free online auto insurance quotes. In fact, you can type your zip code on the forms on this page and get precisely that. Get a couple, even five since they’re free anyway, and find out whether the bargain you intend to offer your dad would be a good bargain for you, too.

Vehicle Insurance Company Boca Raton Florida FL

Reader’s Question:

I’ve had a couple of minor accidents here in Boca Raton, Florida, although I was never found to be at fault in any one of them. Does my insurance company have the right to raise my premiums?

Alvin,

Boca Raton, FL

Before we discuss the answer on whether your insurance company has the right to increase you premiums or not, let us first determine the effect of accidents in your premiums. Usually, premiums increase because of accidents car drivers get into. Although, in effect, the costs that result from accidents are shouldered by your insurance company, the company is still thinking whether you are profitable to them or not. If they see that the payment they make for the damages is more than what you have paid them in the form of premiums, they may require you to increase your premiums and consider you as a high risk. However, it is always dependent on the type and severity of the accident plus the frequency of its recurrence. Now, the insurance company may tell you to increase you premiums but it is you who should always decide whether to pay an increased amount or not. You may ask your insurance agent there in Boca Raton Florida to give you lower premiums and get into a better compromise.

Otherwise, you could always check other insurance companies and see whether you could get a better deal with them. You could buy auto insurance online and compare quotes. But remember that these companies will always look at your driving history and previous car insurance policy, so it wouldn’t hurt if you already expect an increase in your current premium.
