Reader’s Question:

I was just wondering – why are the prices and premium rates for auto insurance policies so different here in Clearwater Florida FL. Why can’t there just be a fixed price? Hope you can enlighten me on this.

I’d love to enlighten you on that matter! First and foremost, auto insurance policy prices in Clearwater Florida FL differ because they really aren’t commodities or standard products that you can find in supermarket shelves. The same product can even differ in prices, how much more would it be for an auto insurance policy? These policies are based on uncertainty of events and risks.

So the premise is, the higher the risk probability of the insured vehicle, the higher the premium. In order to determine if an insured vehicle is high or low risk, here are some factors that insurance companies look out for:

Driving Record. People with clearer driving record have lower risk than people who have had previous traffic violation records.

Policyholder Age. Most insurance companies view younger drivers as more reckless, thus, the insurance risk is also higher.

Car Age. An older vehicle costs more than a new one, and it’s also obvious that the older the car is, the more likely it is to be damaged than brand new cars.

Location. The place you live also determines the price of your auto insurance premiums. If you live in an area in Clearwater Florida FL that has high theft, vandalism, road accident and natural disaster rates will give you higher premium rates.

Coverage Amount. And of course, this one. When you want a larger coverage for your auto insurance, it is but natural for you to pay higher than a person who’s getting the regular basic liability coverage.
